Zaay The Leak Tape Interview
Name of the Album/Mixtape/Project: The Leak Tape
What inspired the title?: Me and my homie 1995 (who produced the tape) were vibing in the studio and just pressing out songs. We didn't know what to name each song so we named them Leak 1, Leak 2, etc. From that moment we discussed project names and thought it would be different if we named it The Leak Tape. The name sounded fitting especially cuz every song was kind of a leak of consciousness.
Where did you record this album?: I recorded tracks 1-4 and 6 in Jersey City, New Jersey and Pill i recorded it at homie in Lawrence ma, The original demo to Pill was recorded in my car after lyft driving in Boston until i was able to re record it in my house.
What is your favorite track? Why?: My favorite song on the project was Pill because it just flowed together so effortlessly. The beat gave me a 90s black sitcom type of feel and it just fit so well together with the concept about comparing my love for music to real love.
What is your favorite line from the album?: "The outcome of life is what you choose to be focused on"
Who helped make this album what it is? Writers, Producers, Muses, Support System, Etc: Me and the homie 1995 primarily made it, he produced every song on it except Pill ,This Side, and Force. Those Last three songs were coproduced. 1995 coproduced Pill with my other homie Obed Padilla, This Side was coproduced by my other homie Tondy with 1995. Force was coproduced by 1995 and Killawatts out of Virginia. My homie Ray Alexis was featured on Living Legend and My homegirl from LA Lea Odalis was featured on Nothing Wrong.
If you could remix any song and feature any artist, what song would it be and who would you feature on it?: I don't think i would change anything about this project.
What's your dream?: My dream is to go platinum and and sell out stadiums off my own creative freedom. I wanna tour the world and feed everyone around me.
What is some advice you would give to someone with a dream?: Protect that dream at all cost! There's mad dream killers out there including your own family sometimes but protect it and execute on it!
