Veronica Nies Interview | Respect The Artist
How did you get your Artist name?
I've always liked my name- it's easy to spell and pronounce and decently unique, so I just used that :)
How did you get into creating?
I've been studying classical piano since I was a little, and over the years I've added more and more instruments and more and more genres. I find that I create the most when I've put myself in situations where I don't really know how to do what I want to do, creatively. So I guess my answer is that I got into creating by figuring out how to do things that I didn't know how to do yet.
Where are you from?
I'm from the Midwest but I've lived most of my life in Europe.
What did you do to advance your skills/knowledge?
Classical musical training, which I will continue to do as long as I can. I really appreciate the value of it and how much it has helped me in every musical and creative pursuit I've done.
What does your current setup look like?
A piano and a but-load of instruments. And a home-studio soon...!
Who inspires you?
Oh gosh, what a huge question. First and foremost I would say my piano teacher/mentor/older-sister-I-never-had, Ksenia Ovodova (@kseniaovodova). But additionally, Emily Bear, Madeline Cross-Parkin(@maddy.piano), HER, Martha Agerich, Rachmaninov, Bach...
What is your goal when you create?
I believe that music is about creating an experience for the listener, and to me, that is something that transcends centuries, genres, and styles.
What's your go-to song right now?
Honestly, every day it changes, so I started doing a 'What's stuck in my head' story series on my Instagram (@veronicanies).
What is your dream as an artist?
This is going to sound fairly lame, but I'm not sure yet. My current goal is to create music that I'm proud of and bring value to my audience and we'll see where that leads me, but I am working out exactly what it is that I'm aiming for- it could be a classical conductor or professional songwriter. I just turned 18, so I'm excited to find out!
What is some advice you would give to someone with a dream?
Give yourself a time crunch for how long you have to pursue it.
Tell us about your most recent release
Actually, my latest release hasn't been music, it's been video about music. I never considered that I'd have as much fun doing this as I have been, but making YouTube videos about being a musician has been such a cool creative and musical outlet for me that I am super grateful for. My most recent video is 'How To Write a Song in 2 Hours I Veronica I Mother's Day Song I Fiverr Songwriting I all at my house' , that I'm really proud of :)
