P. Rose Interview | Discusses new single 'Kobe'

How did you get your Artist name?

I came up with the name P.Rose after losing my mother cancer. Her name was Rose so all i did was add my first initial before her name and that was it. The meaning behind the name is a metaphor to represent unconditional love.

How did you get into creating?

I started creating music when I was 14 but started taking it serious after going through the harsh realities of life. It was a perfect outlet for me to express my emotions through real Lyricism. Almost all my music is based on my life, nothing fabricated or duplicated from negative influences. The difference between me and most artist is that i don't care whats popular i make music thats true to me and the listeners can tell that when they hear it cause what I'm saying is so vulnerable and real and thats why they connect with it.

Where are you from?

I'm from Staten Island, NY. If anybody knows about where I'm from they'll know there's been more deaths from drug overdoses than soldiers dying in war. And i'm not using that fact to brag about my hardships or upbringing, it's just a reality of where I'm from and what I've dealt with growing up in my neighborhood.

What did you do to advance your skills/knowledge?

That's a good question. My best answer to that is I literally only focused on music and toning my craft for about 10 years straight, writing at least 3 songs per night. recording once or twice a week, performing at different underground venues around NY, networking with different artist and producers, booking rehearsals to learn stage presence, studying vides on youtube on marketing and promotion and most of all surrounding myself with the right people who had the knowledge I was seeking. Ex: Studio owners, Engineers & studios who worked with known Artist, Mixing Engineers who cater to your specific sound or genre of music you create is KEY!!

What does your current setup look like?

My setup is real simple Mac laptop and Beats headphones is all i really need to create music. I let Lounge take care of the rest. They're a studio based out of mid-town Manhattan. I'm not against having your own setup but don't let being comfortable in your space stop you from experiencing and learning new things about creating music. My opinion is that if you really wanna excel as an artist you should find yourself a professional studio with good vibes and knowledgeable Engineers who really know their shit.

Who inspires you?

Pain and love is what inspires me more than anything else. I create my most beautiful pieces of work through pain and love they're both a major energy i feed off to create music. As for other influences that inspire me, I like to surround myself with likeminded people who have the same drive and goals as me or made it out the same or similar circumstances as myself. As for artist who inspire me I would have to go with 2pac, Prodigy, Big Pun, Eminem, Nas, Lloyd Banks, Drake, Joe Budden, J.Cole, Kendrick Lamar & John connor

What is your goal when you create?

There are many goals I try to accomplish when I create.
It all depends on the message I'm trying to deliver but I would say my my main goal when I create is to bring the listener into my world and raise their consciousness through my music. I want to uplift people's minds and pull them out of their ongoing negative cycles by exposing them to the different truths and realities of life so to keep it simple, my goal is to save someones life. That's really my main goal.

What's your go-to song right now?

My go to song is my newest single titled "Kobe" released on Soundcloud

What is your dream as an artist?

My dream as an artist is to change the world and to create outlets for kids and artist like myself. The money will always come second to me because I don't this for money or materialistic things that people are brainwashed by. I do this because I have a deep love and passion for the music I create and a real story I want the world to hear.

What is some advice you would give to someone with a dream? My best advice to anyone with a dream is to BELIEVE in yourself and LOVEEEEE!!!!! what you do. Don't do it because you want to be popular or be accepted or because its cool or you want to make a lot of money. In the end, none of that stuff matters. Some of the wealthiest people in the world are the most miserable. You really have to ask yourself, what is the reason you're doing this and can it help people? Once you ask yourself that question your mind already knows the answer. After that It's on you to change it for embrace it.
