Phitzdadescription and Niall Sullivan 'Finding My Way Home' Interview

What inspired the title 'Finding My Way Home'?

I recently moved out of state and I was really into the music scene on Staten Island before I moved. I would always try to go out and support all the artist I knew. Once I moved I got harder to be at the places and events I would frequent, the the quarantine started a couple months later, so I couldn’t even get around in my new area. I was stuck in my basement trying to find my way home musically.

Where did you record this album?

All of the tracks were produced in my basement and Niall recorded his parts at home during the quarantine. Like I said I just moved to new house and the pandemic hit so a lot of time I found myself pacing around this unfamiliar room but I felt like a blank canvas. Somewhere I could start something from scratch. New sounds new textures new grooves.

What is your favorite track? Why?

I would say track 2 . So on my way I met ... It was inspired by one of my favorite jazz bands Coachamea gastellum and the electric sounds of Johnny arrow. I always loved the horn sections. Like most of the tracks it started out as sketch and pretty sparse once I sent it to Niall he brought it to life with the bass line and I went back and added some extra keys after that amazing sax riff and everything fell in place from there. I wanted it to sound like it could have been on one of my favorite jazz playlists.

What is your favorite line from the album?

Since this is an instrumental album there no lyrics but all of Niall’s bass lines are my favorite he really killed every track and added his own groovy Ed’s to the project that I feel ties it altogether wish I could have used all the takes he sent me it was that good but we’re still not home yet so maybe one day there be more. Also 5pm is featured on Today’s Tommorow /FuckMadmissedcalls. He dropped a dope guitar solo that ties both parts of the song together beautifully.

Who helped make this album what it is?

The album is produced by myself and all songs feature Niall Sullivan on bass. 5 pm played a guitar solo on track 3. Most of the song titles are inspires by my wife and inside jokes but for the most part it was just me and Niall exchanging ideas thru emails.

If you could remix any song and feature any artist, what song would it be and who would you feature on it?

Actually I would like to remix the entire project with a bunch of different artist giving their take on the music. I used photos the jahtiek long took as the cover art and he’s a dope artist as well so definitely him. I have a good relationship most of my favorite artist so I don’t want jump out the window too quick but trust me we are all gonna find our way home.

What's your dream?

My dream is to make music that my family and peers can be proud of long after I’m gone. I want to be able to take crazy vacations with my wife and kids and experience life outside of grinding and hustling for a few weeks a year and do it all from music.

What is some advice you would give to someone with a dream?

My advice to someone with a dream is to wake up and put it into action . Write it down have a plan and execute. It’s alright to make mistakes along the way those are just lessonsthat will fine tune the plan. Don’t give up at all no matter how long it takes. Your not on anybody else clock. The more knowledge I gain on Route the more prepared you will be for ya moment, cuz it’s definitely gonna come if u stay down.
