Fortune Canvas Interview | Respect the Artist

How did you get your Artist name?

I came up with the name in relation to the fortune cookie vibe. I write my messages and paint them on canvas. Every canvas is another fortune.

How did you get into creating?

I got into creating by taking the train to high school and looking out the window and getting inspired by the graffiti. Just another way for an artist to express oneself. We are inspired by what we see around us, and as a kid growing up in New York City I did not see any legal art in the schools I went to, nor was there any classes or programs for someone like myself to attend. So I did the only thing I knew and that was street art.

How has creating changed your life?

Creating changed my life because it kept me an outlet. As people we all need that certain something to fall back on. What ever it is we love to do. That was art for me. If you look at the human body under a microscope all we are is a blob of energy. We all need an outlet to plug ourselves into. If you look at the word "outlet" backwards it says Let Out. We all should find that one thing in life that allows us to let out what ever is inside of us.

Where are you from?

Staten Island New York

How did growing up in your neighborhood/city affect you?

It taught me the ins and outs of people. Who you have around is crucial to your success. I use to have the mentality of "Im my own person" I use to say "what does it matter who I hang out with I'm on my own path mentality" Well I was completely wrong, you are who you eat with. It taught me to not only tell the difference between good and bad, but to also appreciate the good people when you meet them.

What did you do to advance your skills/knowledge?

One word, Consistency.

What does your current setup look like?

My current setup is the world is my easel. I paint anywhere.

Who inspires you? Why do they inspire you?

I get inspired by people who have longevity. Anyone can pick something up and do it for a few months or even a few years. But when you last the test of time, the clock tells me who is doing what.

What is your goal when you create?

My intention when I create is to do what I love and at the same time impact someone.

Why do you create?

I create because it gives me peace.

What's your go-to song right now and why is it important to you?

My go to song right now currently is Till I Collapse by Eminem. Because I will do this until I no longer could.

What is your dream as an artist and what steps are you taking to reach your dream?

My dream is to have the number one show/clothing brand in the world.

What is the best advice you would give someone with a dream?

Besides never stopping, make sure you're not doing too many things within what you do. Find a nitch and stick to it.
