Oktaf Kanis is an Indonesian indie rock musician born in Jakarta. We sat down with him to discuss his creative process, life growing up in Indonesia and dreams.
How did you get into creating?
When I was eager to create a masterpiece. that's where I started to be creative in music and I started with no activity, and I had to test my skills and hobbies, and at first I really liked creating things, but I wanted to create a song that really meant a lot to me and people.
How has creating changed your life
It just flows in my life and I meet my identity, that who I am.
Where are you from?
Jakarta, Indonesia.
What did you do to advance your skills/knowledge?
I think constantly wanting to know something new and practice, that's all.
Who inspires you? Why do they inspire you?
Keith Richards and David Bowie, they are cool right? Because of them I can play music, and because of them I learned piano and guitar when I was a child, yeah they are my inspiration.
What is your goal when you create?
My goal us for my creation to be appreciated by many people.
Why do you create?
It makes me happy
What's your go-to song right now and why is it important to you?
For now I'm listening to "Everything’s Electric" by Liam Gallagher, because it’s very suitable for my ears, from the rhythm it is my taste.
What is your dream as an artist and what steps are you taking to reach your dream?
I did a tour in england, and of course Glastonbury, I would love to be there.
What is the best advice you would give someone with a dream?
Don't regret your life when you're not productive anymore, while you're still productive, do what you think is your goal and have fun with it.
