Marcus Saint Interview | Respect the Artist

How did you get your Artist name?

It's my birth name! Everyone says it sounds like a stage name so i just ran with it!

How did you get into creating?

My whole entire family is already in the industry. All of my friends are in the industry. It just made sense. It runs in my blood. God had it set for me, so I had to obey.

Where are you from?

I'm from the DMV the greatest musical place to ever exist. Anyone who says different is wrong. NO exceptions.

What did you do to advance your skills/knowledge?

I literally study everything. I analyze what all the greats are doing. Anyone who I think is musically talented in any sort of way...I see what it is that they do that draws me to them and see how I can pull from that.

What does your current setup look like?

Literally just my Mac Book Pro, Focusrite interface and two Yamaha speakers. Plus my ROLI MIDI of course.

Who inspires you?

Being from the DMV I'm very inspired by Pharell and Timbaland when it comes to production.
When it comes to song-writing I'm very inspired my Ester Dean and Missy Elliot.
For my artistry I've been inspired by DEV (Like A G6) and again Pharell.

What is your goal when you create?

To speak to who ever is listening. People don't know how powerful a song can be. I know when firework came out there were so many people who stopped their path of attempting suicide. Music touches the soul and I want to bring everyone closer to the light as much as possible.

What's your go-to song right now?

I've been listening to a lot of Gospel right now. Probably they that wait by Fred Hammond

What is your dream as an artist?

To take my record label, Pursuit Of Power (P.O.P.) to the next level. I want to bring on the next big wave of artist.

What is some advice you would give to someone with a dream?

Pray about it. God will give it to you.

Tell us about your most recent release.

1 TIME!!! I'm a huge Lil Kim fan! I grew up on her and then eventually Nicki Minaj and Cardi B of course. Love them all! However, that crush on you record is everything. One of the greatest beats to ever touch hip hop. I had to sample it and recreate the track. I originally made the track to fit the 90's sampled theme. Everyone's been asking me to re do these old school hip hop beats since Godismikey dropped ICEBOX (which I also produced). I was just making it to sell but I couldn't give it away. I hit up Justin Evan Thomas to write the hook and then boom! The song was finished. Great way to get everyone ready for the EP!
