Derry Kost Interview | Respect the Producer Interview

How did you get your name?

It's so simple. My real name is Ayder so I just took 3 last letters 'DER" and it comes like DERRY.

Kost it's just adding to make it sounds cool.

Where are you from?

Ukraine. Actually from Crimea and now it's part of Russia, but I don't wanna talk about it.

How did you get into Producing?

Probably it was 8 years ago or more when I get my first DAW which called Cakewalk. I was super interested how to make electronic music. In that time there is no plenty of samples, tutorials as we can get now. When I started make some shitty sounds from prepared patterns in Cakewalk I was super happy. haha. That was fun. Later I found a FL studio. I don't remember which version but it was more better than Cakewalk for sure. From that time until today I use FL studio and I feel comfortable.

What did you do to advance your skills/knowledge?

Actually I still learning every time I'm get something new and I think it will never stops.

But my way is super long. At that place where I'm from we haven't a lot of producers which can teach you or you can collaborated with or even stay in studio and learn how to make music. Everything was on its own, intuitively, making mistakes etc.
But nowadays I think it takes less time to know how to make music, mix it and master.

What did your first set up look like?

My first set up was super simple computer with simple hi fi speakers. Actually I'm still without my pro studio but it's because of my location and touring. Plans for 2020 and 2021 do pro studio and get house.

What does your current setup look like?

Mac Pro 15 . MSI laptop. JBL Speakers

If you could produce for any artist (dead or alive), who would it be?

I never thought about that, to be honest.

What is your goal when you create?

For me the idea most important and then a quality. Idea + quality

What's your go-to song right now?

If mine - I think it's ' GET DOWN '

What is your dream as a Producer?

Produce as much as possible legendary tracks and make a successful career.

What is some advice you would give to someone with a dream to become a Producer?

Nowadays be a producer it's not a problem. You need just a laptop, DAW and headphones for begginers. You can find a plenty of tutorials, samples which is helps a lot.
