MumRoss Interview | Respect The Artist

I place my fears, my love, and my sentiments and I give them shape, I give them color.

How did you get your name?

At the beginning of my journey, after I was done with a piece, I would call my husband in to take a peep. And every time without out a doubt, He would look at it and yell out “MUMROSS”! So when I decided to take a step forward and create an ig account for my art, the only name that could come to mind was MumRoss. :)

How did you get into creating?

The pandemic hit hard for everyone including myself.
I was trying to find several outlets to help cope and
with so much time thinking I recalled a memory.
A friend told me I should take up painting, He felt it would be a good fit.

I hopped onto Amazon and ordered my 1st mini paint set and I’ve been painting ever since.

How has creating changed your life?

Creating has turned my madness into peace.
It’s opened doors to meeting folks with the same passion and creativity that perhaps I wouldn’t have come across otherwise.

Where are you from?

Born in NY, Staten Island and now I reside in the L.E.S.

How did growing up in your neighborhood/city affect you?

t could’ve been the summer nights with all my friends on the stoop or the quarter waters. Maybe the fire hydrant popped open on a hot summer day or maybe it was the corner store owner Mr. Muhammad who always looked out for me. The neighborhood wasn’t rich but the bond of our community was. Perhaps it was all of it.

What did you do to advance your skills/knowledge?

By staying persistent and learning from myself, works for me, and what doesn’t.

And of course YouTube, Instagram reels, and other amazing artists who are gracious enough to share helpful tips.

What does your current setup look like?

When I’m actually working on a piece it’s complete CHAOS. I do try my best to keep it as neat and orderly.

Who inspires you? Why do they inspire you?

My husband.
He’s always motivated to make content or I should say determined.
He puts himself out there and has made soo many new genuine connections.

And I’m in awe of his ambition.

What is your goal when you create?

If I can have one person feel, feel anything at all.
Look at my work for longer than 20 seconds then I’ve succeeded in my goal.

Why do you create?

It gives me purpose and happiness.

What's your go-to song right now and why is it important to you?

Clair de lune. It’s one of the pieces that bring me instant mental relief.

Like every tense muscle in my body just releases.

What is your dream as an artist and what steps are you taking to reach your dream?

My only dream as an artist is to always have the capability to create, everything after that is a blessing.

What steps I’m I taking?
I make time even when I feel like I don’t have time.

What is the best advice you would give someone with a dream?

Like Shia Labeouf once said …
JUST DO IT!
