Mic-T The Noisemaker Interview | Respect the Artist

Michael Thompson II ( Mic-T The Noisemaker) was born on November 4th, 1989 in Staten Island New York second born of 3 the eldest son to Anna and Michael. Music was always a factor of life Mic always knew he wanted to be involved in music no matter the capacity. He knew he wanted to rap after hearing “One Mic” by Nas when it debuted on Hot 97 while sitting in the car with his father and brother the rest was to be written.

How did you get your name?

An abbreviation of my government name was added to my brand.

How did you get into creating?

Always knew I wanted to be a part of music but the first time I heard Nas's “One Mic” while sitting in the car with my father and younger brother I told myself I wanted to rap.

Where are you from?

Staten Island, New York

How did growing up in your neighborhood/city affect you?

Being from Staten Island we always feel we have to prove we’re just as good if not better at this than the other boroughs.

What did you do to advance your skills/knowledge?

I study the game. I’m not just a hip-hop artist I’m a music artist. I listen to it all and study it all. Learn from rock and “pop” artists when I was developing how I went about creating I actually didn’t listen to much rap music. I’ve done countless shows starting off my stage presence wasn’t great then I learned to study the crowd and build on that.

What does your current setup look like?

For the last few years, I’ve been recording and creating with Agent Blurr. I like to write in my own personal space but we’ve been there putting in a lot work.

Who inspires you?

Musically I look at who’s become moguls from artists. Based on creating music my family and close friends. That’s what the majority of my current iOS is based on. My father was a DJ before he was a father so my music heart came from him.

What is your goal when you create?

My goal is for the music to reach the people it’s supposed to reach. Life is real we’re all dealing with real things. I rather not act like everything is all good all the time. It’s not. Let’s have fun but not shy away from what’s really happening outside.

Why do you create?

I create because it’s in me to do it. I’ve taken breaks because it wasn’t in me to do so. But then there were the times that I was pumping music out performing at least once a week. I made a song years ago. I started off being shy to share my music then one day I remixed Mark Ronson's “Stop Me” and played it for my younger brother he immediately made me a MySpace music page and it got thousands of plays and I knew being myself creating the sounds I want would relate.

How has choosing your creative path affected your life?

This path allowed me to meet an abundance of great people who I’m grateful for. And allowed me to connect with people who are going threw similar things I am/was.

Did you have to overcome any obstacles along the way?

When you’re true to yourself/sound (it took some time to find mine) you get kickbacks which for the most part didn’t bother me. Once I became 100% confident it what I was doing it was all good. Dealing with a percentage of people who get what you're getting at and then another who might not can be discouraging but I stoop by my art.

What's your go-to song right now and why is it important to you?

Nothing specific but Stevie Wonder is my go-to artist to listen to . He’s one of the goats and was one of my father's favorite artists. If it wasn’t for my dad I might not love music the way I do.

What is your dream as an artist and what steps are you taking to reach your dream?

At this time in life, I just want to reach the people I’m meant to reach. I’ve put in a lot of work. Been told special things by fans. I just want to create and help people.

What would you tell someone else with a dream?

Believe in yourself and put in the work. Also, decide what it is you want out of the dream.

Tell us about your most recent release.
