The internet is a small world. So when we bump into someone with the album named 'Stereotype' we couldn't help but be curious. Meko dropped his album off to our offices and from track 1 we continued to keep our ears glued to the stereo. Our favorite tracks are CBS, Snapshot, Last Stop & For My People. We had to chance to speak to Meko Sky and get a deeper look into his album, goals & dreams and hear about the time he was Stereotype'd and broke a stereotype. It was only right for us at Stereotype Co to link with the man who made the album 'Stereotype'.

Why did you make this album ?

This album wasn't made in one night. This took years to finally get everything right. I released 2 previous projects (END of END & NORMALiTY) and while those were good in their own right, I feel this album embodies me and my sound. This is the album they said I would never make... I lived above what they said!

What inspired you to create 'Stereotype'?

I get inspired by a lot. I was inspired by many things going on with myself and things going on in everyday life, things in the hood that are never brought to the light. Things that are shaping hip hop and our nation. Motivation can come from any where it's what you do with that energy that makes the difference.

What is your goal as a hip hop artist and artist in general?

The goal in general is to get a message across, now the message depends on the where you're from and or the audience you are trying to reach. My goal is to spread knowledge and let others know we can make music about things other than guns and drugs, but there are still conscious rappers/musicians around. My goal is to let people know that there is more to see and that we go through things as well. We are all human!

When did you know you wanted to make music?

Music was always apart of my life but my art form was originally poetry (Haikus) and short stories. I enjoyed writing and expressing myself. So it was later in life I decided to go into the studio with the help of Dayzel and Marv they knew I had something. I had the voice they said and I had something different to offer. So here I am.

How did you come up with the title for the album? What inspired that?

The title was simple, something catchy but something that has shaped the world... Stereotypes,.. And we put a twist on it, an idea from my good friend Ciaseem, "was I the right type for the stereo?" Lol

What is your dream now that you just accomplished this dream?

I live for the moment, I just want to continue to be creative and keep making music. I am looking to tour that's my next step.

Who helped make this album what it is? Writers, Producers, Muses, Support System, Etc

I have to thank my engineer mainly for dealing with all the crazy ideas and concepts. My management team, N'Finity, they helped back and support this album. My friends and family who come out to all the shows and events and take the time out to just listen to a song. My supporters I know and those I don't, you are all the reason this album was created.

What is your favorite track? Why?

My favorite track is LAST STOP. It means so much to me, it's based on my high school experiences. I speak on battles I've seen, friends I've made and things that shaped me into the man I am today.

Have you ever been Stereotype'd? Tell us more

Yes...but I won't get into politics but regarding the music because I'm not the "typical" rapper I was critiqued heavily. At first I was told to sound more aggressive but that's not my style. So I had to create something new and because of that people have begun to accept it and then realize I'm actually a very dope artist, if I can say so myself lol

Have you ever broke a Stereotype someone had of you? Tell us about it

As a young man growing up on Jackson ave in the South Bronx, I had to break many stereotypes & I'm continuing to try and live above them. My environment wasn't the best but each and every moment was something else to express and allow people to hear my story & make it greater. My uncle once told me "A man who never took a chance, never had one" & I've lived by that. So in order for me to take those chances or those risks I had to first find out what was my gift. Once that was done the wall of stereotypes fell. Now I have to continue and remember that the hood isn't a bad place it's where the journey begins for me.
