Meeko Kolledi Interview | Respect the Artist

How did you get your Artist name?

My brother gave it to me when we were kids.

How did you get into creating?

When I was younger I played instruments; guitar, cello, keyboard. That eventually evolved into singing. When I was 11 years old, I was introduced to Eminem & Tupac. The rest is history.

How has creating changed your life?

Rapping has given me an outlet to process what is going on in my head as I live my life. I think we all have that feeling from time to time where we want to vicariously live through someone else's life or story. I do that with my music.

Where are you from?

Peekskill, New York

How did growing up in your neighborhood/city affect you?

It made me feel that being so close to New York City, I always had something to prove. There is so much talent in my local area and I feel like we always wanted to bring that talent to the city.

What did you do to advance your skills/knowledge?

I graduated from the Institute of Audio Research in 2014. I record, mix & master all my tracks.

What does your current setup look like?

Like an official studio that doubles as a bedroom.

Who inspires you? Why do they inspire you?

Anybody thats out there chasing their dream and making moves based on that dream inspires me. It inspires me because it proves yet again that with hard work you can get there.

What is your goal when you create?

My goal is to paint a picture that people can relate to.

Why do you create?

To tell my story.

What's your go-to song right now and why is it important to you?

P.O.V just because it's such a hard hitting song that I always catch people bobbing their heads, so it sets the vibe off.

What is your dream as an artist and what steps are you taking to reach your dream?

My dream as an artist is to be able to do music full time. That all starts with building a fan base.

What is the best advice you would give someone with a dream?

Don't stop no matter what.

Tell us about your most recent release

I just dropped a 4 track EP called P.O.V. The whole project has a very dark eerie vibe. The song listing leads into one another. Watch Me, Notice Me, Fix Me & P.O.V. Each song is a story in its own and the album is a movie.

Listen to P.O.V.
