How did you get your Artist name?

My real last name is Gomillion. So everybody for as long as I can remember has called me "Go" or "Millz".

How did you get into creating?

Honestly, two albums made me want to rap. "Vol. 3.... Life and Times of Shawn Carter" by Jay-Z and "The Slim Shady LP" by Eminem. Back in 1999, when I was 10 years old. I heard those albums and I picked up a pen immediately and tried to write like those two combined. The wittiness and swag of Jay mixed with sarcasm and off-the-wall stuff like Em.

How has creating changed your life?

Above all, it gives me an outlet when I feel like I can't think straight or adequately express myself. I can always write a song or a few bars to clear my head. In other aspects it's allowed me to travel, make a few dollars, and meet other people who inspire ands push me.

Where are you from?

Charlotte, NC. Westwood Apartments to be exact.

How did growing up in your neighborhood/city affect you?

You learn to have awareness of your surroundings and the people in it. You see examples of what's right and wrong, and try to avoid pitfalls that trap others.

What did you do to advance your skills/knowledge?

Listening to people who I would consider pioneers like Rakim, Big Daddy Kane, Ice-T, Ice Cube Scarface, etc. If you want to be a great rapper/MC, you need to go back and listen. It's the equivalent of of doing a research paper in college. There's no way you will not get better (if that's your goal). Also, rap every day. Not write, just rap. Freestyle, make a few words rhyme here and there.

What does your current setup look like?

Samsung laptop, Audio-Technica mic, Kaotica eyeball filter. My DAWS is Adobe Audition.

Who inspires you? Why do they inspire you?

At this point, it's my kids and lady. Having a family of your own who loves you unconditionally, looks up to you, supports you. I just want to provide the world for them.

What is your goal when you create?

I want to feel as if it's better than the last thing I created. I want every verse to be better than the last one and every song to be better than the last one.

Why do you create?

I love it. I'll keep rapping even I never become famous. It's truly the one thing I know I'm great at.

What's your go-to song right now and why is it important to you?

"2 Million Up" by Peezy. Sometimes you gotta listen to some player shit. Someone talking about doing it on their own and becoming rich. Everything ain't gotta be conscious.

What is your dream as an artist and what steps are you taking to reach your dream?

Honestly, I want to rap on Sway in the Morning, and LA Leakers. If you are nice, then that's where you need to be to show it. I want to be able to live comfortably off of the music I make and do it independently.

What is the best advice you would give someone with a dream?

If your intentions are pure, then keep going. And trust your instincts, no matter how smart you are, sometimes your gut just knows what to do.

Tell us about your most recent release

"Soul Music" was released at the end of June. I named it that because the sample is super soulful. But I'm mostly talking about where I'm from, the confidence I have in myself, and my ability.
