FENIX - MOVIES ARE FOREVER Interview

FENIX - MOVIES ARE FOREVER Interview

Rising rapper and artist Fenix released his highly anticipated new album, Movies Are Forever, on July 11th, 2024. The album combines the worlds of cinema and music, using iconic movie titles and themes to reflect Fenix's personal journey and struggles in the world of hip-hop. With raw, introspective lyrics and cinematic references, the album is a powerful statement on self-discovery, perseverance, and the constant fight to keep moving forward in the face of adversity.

Each track on Movies Are Forever is titled after a famous film, with Fenix using those movie titles to explore significant moments in his own life. The album serves as a cinematic exploration of Fenix’s psyche, reflecting themes of personal growth, overcoming obstacles, and never giving up on the pursuit of music.

What inspired the title?

I chose the title Movies Are Forever because, to me, great movies stand the test of time—they continue to resonate with us long after the credits roll. Movies have always been more than just entertainment for me; they offer a lens through which we can understand ourselves and the world around us. Like those films, the themes explored on this album are personal but also universal. Each track is inspired by a movie, and the lessons, struggles, and triumphs portrayed in those films mirror my own journey. The album reflects the idea that, just like a classic movie, the experiences and stories that shape us remain with us forever—they’re etched into who we are and continue to influence how we move forward.

Where did you record this album?

The majority of the album was recorded at my home in Phoenix, but I also made a trip out to Staten Island in April 2023 to connect with Eddy for the first time. Before heading back to the Phoenix, I took the opportunity to record some additional tracks in Maryland as well.

What is your favorite track? Why?

Honestly it changes but I think I always go back to "The Other Guys". It was the first song we did for the album and I feel like I just blacked out on that verse.

What is your favorite line from the album?

Honestly, it changes, but I always seem to come back to "The Other Guys." It was the first track we recorded for the album, and I feel like I just went into a zone on that verse—like I blacked out and everything just came out perfectly.

Who helped make this album what it is? Writers, Producers, Muses, Support System, Etc

This album doesn't happen without so many really talented people. I mean AyoDlo produced the majority of it with YoungNothing & Eddy handling a few as well. The Sonoran, who did all of the art for the singles and the cover and tracklist. Fernando, who shot the cover. Eddy I., I mean he executive produced it but he did so much more than that. He connected me with everyone who was apart of this album from getting Glaze to doing some mixes to Tim Saunders mixing the bulk. Even the features I met through Eddy for the most part. He really held it down.

If you could remix any song and feature any artist, what song would it be and who would you feature on it?

This album wouldn’t have happened without the help of so many incredibly talented people. AyoDlo produced the majority of the project, with YoungNothing and Eddy contributing to a few tracks as well. The Sonoran took care of all the artwork for the singles, cover, and tracklist, adding a visual depth to the project. Eddy I. played a huge role—not just as the executive producer, but as a key connector. He linked me up with everyone who contributed to the album, from getting Glaze on board to helping with mixes, and connecting me with Tim Saunders, who mixed most of the project. Even the features were people I met through Eddy. He really held it all together.

What's your dream?

I have this natural drive to be the best, to compete with the greatest. It’s that same competitive mindset you see with players like Jordan or Kobe—something just clicks inside me. I’m a real rapper, and I want to prove that I’ve got the bars to stand toe-to-toe with the top lyricists.

What is some advice you would give to someone with a dream?

Surround yourself with people who are honest with you. Focus on building a solid community and creating impactful, high-quality content. Don’t measure your success against others—your journey will unfold in its own time.
