Dorian Baldari Interview | Respect the Dreamer
My name is Dorian Baldari. I wrote my concept album "End To War" because of the growing tensions building around the world.
What inspired you to pursue your dream, and how did it all begin?
I first fell in love with music when I was a kid. I started playing guitar around age 13 and eventually went to SUNY Purchase, receiving my Bachelors in Music Composition. Unfortunately, because of how challenging it is to make a living in music I decided to get a city job in 2014, becoming a firefighter. I never forgot about my dream and with the current state of the world felt this to be an opportune time to make a statement!
Can you share a defining moment in your journey that shaped your perspective and fueled your passion?
Last year a song went viral named "Rich Men North Of Richmond" by Oliver Anthony. I joked to myself that I could write something just as interesting. That was the start of the idea behind writing a protest song, against War! That eventually morphed into a whole concept album and I just ran with the idea.
How do you handle setbacks and keep pushing forward in the pursuit of your dreams?
I don't care about money. This is all about getting an antiwar message out. We need to tell our leaders we are done with these forever wars and not only Americans, but the world is sick of this shit...LOL
Are there specific individuals who have inspired you along the journey?
Beatles, Billy Joel, Classic Rock in general. Basically music from the 60s through the 90s
How do you maintain a balance between pursuing your dreams and handling everyday responsibilities?
The city job took care of the bills. After building my career there, I decided now was the time to pursue my dreams again.
How do you overcome self-doubt and stay confident in your abilities?
More takes...LOL. I never learned how to punch-in using Logic. So basically, if I recorded something that sucked, I'd have to start from the beginning. I must have done hundreds of takes to get the best one.
Can you share a memorable success story or achievement that resulted from your determination?
I honestly can say that I am happy & proud of my work on this project. I think it's very hard for artists to find peace with their work. It seems artist are their own worst critic, unfortunately.
In what ways do you stay motivated during challenging times?
Walk at the beach, a drive around town listening to music to clear my mind of stress.
What dream are you living right now?
My confidence in this project!
What advice would you give to someone with a dream?
Never give up, but try and be realistic. Art is a tough field to make it in if seems like. I'm still not there...LOL
