DJ Swagger - Respect the DJ Interview

How did you get your name?

A random person called me that name based upon an outfit one day, so I stuck with it. And it's like my persona. Wherever I go I look good if it's a regular fit or a classy fit.

Where are you from?

Staten Island, NY. My family is from the sweet land of liberty, Liberia.

How did you get into DJing?

I was inspired by watching videos of my father and one of my uncles DJing at parties. Also, my mother used to play all types of music on Saturdays when I was a kid. Those times were cleaning days for my siblings and I.

What did you do to advance your skills/knowledge?

Practice, practice, practice. And learned from all of my experiences.

What did your first setup look like?

My first setup was only an All-in-1 computer with a touchscreen. That was it. I used to connect it to the stereo in the living room and just tried from there. This was way back in 2012.

What does your current setup look like?

I now have a Macbook Pro Mid-12, a portable hard drive, a Pioneer DDJ-SR2 DJ controller, a Gator DJ case, a Pro-X DJ stand, two Shure wireless mics, and two JBL's Indoor/Outdoor speakers.

If you could produce for any artist (dead or alive), who would it be?

It can be anyone. I'm very versatile.

What is your goal when you create?

When I create I want to musically connect with people no matter the genre and make sure they're enjoying themselves and having a good time.

What's your go-to song right now?

DNA by Holy Moe

What is your dream as a DJ?

My dream is to become one of the greatest ever to do it. To inspire millions of people in the world that nothing's impossible and we can all come together through music.

What advice would you give someone with a dream to become a DJ?

Never let anything or anyone stop you from doing what you love. Always enjoy it to the fullest and become great.
