303BAM Interview | Respect the Artist
How did you get your name?
Bam is a name I got when I was little cause I was a rambunctious. The 303 comes from 10303 the Mariner's Harbor zip code which is where im from.
How did you get into creating?
My older brothers introduced me to rap at a young age and I was always trying to freestyle on my karaoke machine. Then when I was 12 my brother Thrillah started recording and making beats and it was up from there.
How has creating changed your life?
I can't say creating has changed my life because I've been creating for so long. If anything it has molded my life into what it is today. I couldn't be me if I couldn't create.
Where are you from?
I'm from the 303. Mariner's Harbor Staten Island, New York.
How did growing up in your neighborhood/city affect you?
I saw a lot of things that we all see living in the city. Lot's of poverty, crime and struggle right next to bright lights and skyscrapers. It motivated me to try to achieve greater things as opposed to succumbing to the trenches.
What did you do to advance your skills/knowledge?
I rapped every day. I write every day. I studied music and I still do.
What does your current setup look like?
I go to the studio but I've got a home setup with a mic interface and laptop, of course.
Who inspires you? Why do they inspire you?
My family because I want to be successful for them. My parents have worked their whole lives to put me in a better position and I want to be able to do that and more for them. Give them a life they never had.
What is your goal when you create?
I just want to have fun and express myself. Be myself and tell my story.
Why do you create?
I create because I have to. It's a part of who I am.
What's your go-to song right now and why is it important to you?
My go to song right now is 'Like it was nothing' because I put a lot of work into the message and lyrics. Its about who I am and where I'm going.
What is your dream as an artist and what steps are you taking to reach your dream?
My dream is to be able to help people get through tough times through my art. I want to show kids who don't feel like they have hope that they can achieve their dreams. To get there, im working on connecting with as many people as I can to spread awareness.
What is the best advice you would give someone with a dream?
Chase that shit!
