VR. - Frequencies [Exclusive Interview]

Interview by Dave Noodlez

I recently caught VR.'s performance at Hub 17 in Staten Island, NY. He brought amazing energy. fresh bars and it felt like I was looking at the future. It was only right I linked up with him to talk about his new EP 'Frequencies', life, dreams, memories of being stereotyped and dream collaborations. Hope you enjoy our column of #DeeperLook as we learn more about VR. and his new project.

Why did you make this album?

Well, while writing this project I was at a pretty low point in my life. I consider this peice as an “audio book” of mine because I’m simply giving you a story from one of many perspectives of mine. It’s all a small compilation of my observation.

What inspired the title 'Frequencies'?

Great question. During the time I was in a bad state of depression; I was facing suidcial thoughts. One day a friend of mine introduced me into Buddhism and the rest was history. I was inspired by its philosophy and the idea of meditation. After that? I shortly discovered chakras, and how you and I move are vibrational beings. This project is based on 7 main chakras. Each record representing one, from a low frequency (negative place) and progresses to a higher frequency (a palace of growth.)

What is your goal as an artist?

I have many goals, and there will forever be new ones for I constantly set the bar high for myself. I don’t know if I’ll ever be satisfied but I can tell you that if there’s one thing I hope to achieve ? Is to influence positive change on people’s lives. For my work to inspire those who were lost just like myself at one point. Spark the minds of those that lack direction & self confidence. Music saved my life man. Dream and put the work in. You’ll be surprised where you’ll end up.

When did you know you wanted to make music?

Thanks to my mother, music was always played a huge role in my life. Even when I wasn’t developing as an artist. I truly realized this is what my sole purpose was at 17, after an attempt of taking my own life.

What is your dream now that you just accomplished this dream?

My dream is to take this as far as I can imagine. World wide. To travel the world and be successful. All I want to do is change live, create the best work I can possibly make, Evolve and give my mother everything she’s never had before on this physical plane.

Who helped make this album what it is? Writers, Producers, Muses, Support System, Etc

I basically did everything myself. But I appreciate & love those that inspired to keep my head up. They know who they are. Most of the beats I don’t have full ownage too, but shout out to Soul Journal for tracking, and mixing the project. Big shout out to my brother Chrisgotheat who produced LCH.

What is your favorite track? Why?

My favorite track on the project is LCH. That’s where I project my evolution at the point, I level up. Something like Goku when he’s at level 2 or 3.

Have you ever been Stereotype'd? Tell us more

Of course I have been. Coming up trying to rap, everyone laughed at me. Even close friends behind my back.

Have you ever broke a Stereotype someone had of you? Tell us about it

But after a while of them seeing my progression, and me breaking the barriers showing more action than words it all started to change. Especially years later after I did my first performance. Then, they can tell it wasn’t a hobby for me. This is my life. But at this point, there’s nothing else to say. I’m about this.

If you could do remix to one song on the album and anyone as your guest feature, what song what it would be and who would you have on it?

That’s tough to say,I don’t think I’d remix any song off of here but if I could, I might remix LCH and get Kendrick on it. That would be dope as hell. Honestly though, I’d just do a huge remix like what Busta did with “Touch It”
