Spacevsman 'Neptune (Depression 101)' Interview

What inspired the title?

It started following the theme of my name, and brand, and then I added personal touch. There were other planets in mind, and other sounds available to expand on, but I felt my discography needed a more personal touch. Neptune is one of the furthest planets from Earth. When we are depressed we usually want to escape, to get as far away from "here" as possible. It's also a blue planet which further resonated with sorrows, "I'm so blue". The 101 moniker is because I taught myself how to express and feel more of myself through the creation of this project.

Where did you record this album? I recorded this entire album in the comfort of my home. I have a small home studio, and with that freedom, I was able to slowly orchestrate all the sounds, ideas, and collaborations you'll hear blending so naturally on the album.

What is your favorite track? Why?

This Is a hard question. Every time I listen to the album I feel like I have a new favorite track. They're all important parts of the whole. But If I had to choose, I'm going to go with "in my ways". When I wrote that song I remember thinking "this album Is going to be great with an evil grin across my face!

What is your favorite line from the album?

Yes I was torn apart, confusion rooting in my undeveloped heart, columbine if I ain't get exposed to art, pain in that paper push my tears through that pen ink, they just call it talent when it's my savior from deaths brink

People don't realize how many lives and mentalities expression through art has and can save. People also don't realize the separation artist has from the "dream" once they've healed, and the necessity to create becomes more of a hobby.

Who helped make this album what it is?

First I wanna thank my Grandfather (R.I.P) for unconsciously introducing me to the rhythm as a whole by just being in his element. Playing records, instruments, jazz, blues, and so much more that laid the foundation for how I hear and create music. Shout out to myself and my brother Rizzy Ratchet and for the engineering/producing of this project. Shout out to Clyde Drexx, Frank Knight, Descendent, R.Q.Tek, ChosenKing, Dia Rose, Lolodasinger, Rizzy, and Stox on the collaborations. Special mention and R.I.P to my good brother Dolla aka Cmoney.

If you could remix any song and feature any artist, what song would it be and who would you feature on it?

I'm not big on remixing my songs to be completely honest. But, if I had the chance to remix "In my Ways" and get a verse from Joyner Lucas, that would be dope.

What's your dream?

My dream is to live life to the fullest in my image. As ever evolving as that may be. As long as I'm at my best, I don't dream of more.

What is some advice you would give to someone with a dream?

Shape and align your dream with your reality so that no day present or past becomes a nightmare or a failure. Dreams are great, but always remember that the accomplishment or lack thereof doesn't define your life, who you are as a person, or how you are spoken about after you are gone. Dream, but don't forget to live.
