From the mean streets of Roseland in Chicago, Jeff Baylock channeled his inner pains and surroundings with the art form of stand-up comedy. For the past 10 years, Jeff has worked on his craft of storytelling, stage presence, and charisma. In the summer of 2020, Jeff found a new way to deliver his storytelling prowess, music.
How did you get your Artist name?
I got my artist name from a self-thought when it came to my style of rap which is storytelling. Lyrical as I am with my storytelling prowess and assassin meaning when I speak in any art form, I assassinate it.
How did you get into creating?
Before the art of hip hop, I was a comedian. After mastering being a comic I figure out how can I transform some of my skills into music, and I've found it.
How has creating changed your life?
It made me a better writer and to have another outlet to express myself. I can be goofy or I can be real. Which do you prefer?
Where are you from?
Roseland, Illinois is a very hard and tough neighborhood and I could've easily got absorbed in its malice. I had the blessings of mentors and people who believed in me to stay on top.
How did growing up in your neighborhood/city affect you?

What did you do to advance your skills/knowledge?
Practice, practice, PRACTICE, taking classes on theories, and watching documentaries of my favorite influencers in my art.
Who inspires you? Why do they inspire you?
God inspires me because through him I can do everything that I desire with his blessing and timing. In 2nd place, my parents made me great so therefore I have no choice but to be a better version of both.
What is your goal when you create?
My goal is to tell my story the best way I can without using blue punchlines and material. Sometimes that's a huge challenge because of the feel. But as long as they can hear me, I'm good.
Why do you create?
I create because it's my purpose to feed words into people that it may help and/or inspire.
What's your go-to song right now and why is it important to you?
My go-to song is Watch Out For Me, by The Lyrical Assassin. That dude knows how to tell a story and it's dangerously inspiring. Hope to meet him 1 day and shake his hand.
What is your dream as an artist and what steps are you taking to reach your dream?
My dream is to Master the art, They say you need 10,000 hours in order to master something. I think we need to reformat this too, YOU MUST DO THIS FOREVER. When you master the art, you will get paid, you will get a lot of fans, and you will get a lot of opportunities. I want to Master it.
What is the best advice you would give someone with a dream?
Dream it, write it down, say a prayer, and get to work.
Tell us about your most recent release:This release 'Watch Out For Me' must have had about 10 rough drafts and it took me 2 months to complete it because it was my debut single. I was told to rewrite my verse about 9 times and to flow it better. It was hard and I wanted to quit. Thank god I didn't.
