Jooby Truth - 'Truth' [Exclusive Interview]
Interview by Dave Noodlez
I had a chance to link up with Jooby Truth fresh off the release of his album 'Truth'. This is one artist who takes his craft serious. It was only right to give you a deeper look into the project and the mind of Jooby Truth. We hope you enjoy the interview.
Why did you make this album?
I made this album to establish myself. Give different elements of me. Showcase who Jooby Truth is.
What inspired the title 'Truth'?
For one it’s in my name. Another reason is that this was a true reflection of me. Every track reveals a different truth, not one piece of fiction in the lyrics. It was the truth from top to bottom.
What is your goal as an artist?
My goal is to make meaningful, timeless music. Not something that sounds good just right now, but music you can revisit. Whatever emotion portrayed in the music puts you in that state. The hype tracks uplift you, the deeper tracks help you through harder times. Just wanna make music with a purpose.
When did you know you wanted to make music?
My fathers father played jazz. Both my parents had musical backgrounds. My mom sang, my pops rapped from the time I could remember. I was always involved, but from the time I was 12 I knew it was in me for real. Then I took it real serious when I turned 18.
What is your dream now that you just accomplished this dream?
My dream is to touch as many people as possible through music. I want my body of work to live much longer than my physical body. Taking care of the people I love, doing what I love has always been the ultimate dream.
Who helped make this album what it is? Writers, Producers, Muses, Support System, Etc
Joy B, Rehab Beats, Lil Siege, Bam Keith, Willie Tolon and OTT all were either features or had some hand in production that made the project what it is. My wife and my team played a big part in helping making everything happen. Shout out to A1 & Jake.
What is your favorite track? Why?
I connect with each track individually because they each come from real places. If I HAD to choose one I would say Temporary because of the content. I’m very selective with who I express my love to and that song portrays that perfectly.
Have you ever been Stereotype'd? Tell us more
All the time. Being from where I’m from the most common choice of content is killing, having hoes and smoking weed. So when people hear my music and hear where I’m from that throws em off.
Have you ever broke a Stereotype someone had of you? Tell us about it
For some reason people think that because I rap so aggressively, that my personality would come off as a jerk. I’m actually laid back and cool to talk to. I treat everybody with respect as long as its given to me. Actually have heard of few people tell me “Yo, I thought you were an asshole!”
f you could do remix to one song on the album and anyone as your guest feature, what song what it would be and who would you have on it?
By far, I think Kendrick Lamar would sound crazy on This Side. I think he would bring a crazy cadence and push that joint over the top.
