Ifeoluwa Akindele Interview | Respect the Artist

This inteview was curated by START Shows

I am a Nigerian-born Pencil Artist and Oil painter based in New York. My work captures the emotional impact of various life experiences, reflecting how these emotions guide our decisions.
My goal is for viewers to feel a sense of connection through my art, understanding that their emotions—whether sadness, joy, fear, or courage—are shared and valid. I encourage everyone to embrace and explore their inner feelings without self-judgment.

What inspired you to pursue your dream, and how did it all begin?

My mom is my inspiration. Her support inspires me.
I've been drawing for as long as I can remember. I was 7/8 years old winning art competitions in school and my mom has supported my art all through.

Can you share a defining moment in your journey that shaped your perspective and fueled your passion?

I don't know if you believe in visions but I do.

How do you handle setbacks and keep pushing forward in the pursuit of your dreams?

I don't see anything as a set back. I believe for you to get anything that lasts in life you have to prove that you really want it. And that is what separates winners from losers. No matter the challenges, I see it as something I must overcome in other to be the kind of person that can maintain what I desire when I achieve it.

Are there specific individuals who have inspired you along the journey?

Frida Kahlo, I love her story.

How do you maintain a balance between pursuing your dreams and handling everyday responsibilities?

I have a daily routine.

How do you overcome self-doubt and stay confident in your abilities?

I remind myself that my thoughts are my reality. I mean I'm human, sometimes self-doubt tries to linger for long but I meditate on gratitude to help me back on track.

Can you share a memorable success story or achievement that resulted from your determination?

Like I said earlier, I had been winning art competitions from a very young age. I remember that I know I am destined for greatness.

In what ways do you stay motivated during challenging times?

To be honest, I just pick up a brush and paint, that automatically motivates me.

What dream are you living right now?

I've had my art exhibited in galleries with more to come, I've also always dreamed of getting an interview feature of which this is my first of many.

What advice would you give to someone with a dream?

Have faith in yourself and whatever you believe in, once you have faith doubt disappears . Even if it comes up, solid faith would push it out.
