CASTLE Interview | Respect The Artist
CASTLE is an indie pop/rock artist out of Nashville TN. In the music industry city, Evan is looking to make a name for himself with the quality and consistency of his music.
How did you get your Artist name?
Castle is my last name, and it was just another name certain friends would call me and I liked how it sounded out loud
How did you get into creating?
My parents got me going before I could talk. My father's family were all musicians and would play together at night. I first got involved playing small percussion instruments like tambourine or bongo, until my father started teaching me how to play guitar
How has creating changed your life?
At some point for me it simply became the thing I do. After a few years of committing to making music and art it became sort of second nature or normal to do it every day and walk away with something
Where are you from?
I am originally from Buffalo NY, which is basically Canada in culture and geography. Lovely place if you enjoy snow
How did growing up in your neighborhood/city affect you?
I grew up in rural farm towns south of Buffalo, and growing up in a rural town creates a different person. For the people who decide to leave, I think they all share a wonderful sense of adventure and willingness to learn more
What did you do to advance your skills/knowledge?
Practice or write or sing every day no matter what. Consistency I think is far more important than spending hours on a task in one sitting. If you consistently work on skills or projects day to day, it gives your brain time to catch up while you sleep. Your synapses form stronger pathways in your brain and, ultimately, you grow
What does your current setup look like?
I have a finished basement that is devoted to my studio, where I can track pretty much everything but drums. I have a kit but not the right gear to track them. Some nice Yamaha monitors, UA apollo twin interface, and Apple Mac Mini, and I run Logic in my sessions. Various mics, but for demos, I use a Sure sm7b. Nothing fancy, but i can move fast with my setup and capture an idea quickly
Who inspires you? Why?
I think you can find it anywhere, but lately, I have really been resonating with Paolo Nutini's latest record "Last Night In The Bittersweet" it's simply a golden record and I highly recommend it. The artists that inspire me are the ones that i can see a sense of awe and appreciation, maybe even reverence, for the art that music is.
What is your goal when you create?
My goal is always to tap into something a little bigger than myself. It never has to be true for me, but it does have to be true. I think i'm always just trying to put my finger on a larger consciousness.
Why do you create?
I create because the feeling of pouring yourself into something beautiful is always rewarding.
What's your go-to song right now and why is it important to you?
"Acid Eyes" by Paolo Nutini. I just think it is a superb piece of work and I have so much respect for that guy
What is your dream as an artist and what steps are you taking to reach your dream?
My dream as an artist is really to find my 'crowd'. A subset of people who resonate with the things I have to say. I hope to find enough of them to make a career out of music. and continue to write and play for that audience.
What is the best advice you would give someone with a dream?
Don't stop! Your gonna die someday and you should do some interesting things first
Tell us about your most recent release
I just released a single called "Feels Right" it's sort of an uptempo bop about being yourself. Fun song, available everywhere you may stream music. I regularly release music these days, about once a month so keep an eye out for more
