Artist Celebrates 1 Year of Sobriety with a Painting

Stereotype Co recently had the opportunity to link up  with Phillip II. He has been sober for an entire year and most recently painted a piece of artwork to commemorate the achievement. Read Phillip II's story and check out the his painting below. Sobriety

"This painting was done to commemorate my second coming. It's my companies logo instituted into a painting. The depiction represents the emerging of the Thunderbird out of the depths of the Sea of Darkness. I'm a member of the Menominee Nation and a descendant of the Tohono O'odham Nation. The Thunderbird is very meaningful symbol to the indigenous people as it represents the Great Protector and messenger of prayers between us and the Great Spirit. The Thunderbird was also said to create the sound of thunder by the flapping of its wings, thus the thunderbolt symbology within the symbol underneath the wings as apart of the actual Thunderbird itself.

Not too long after I was born I was given the spirit name, Pe-Tee-Tat Moon, which translates to "Sound of Rolling Thunder" in Menominee. This was a derivative of my great father's spirit name Petat Moon. The medicine man added "Sound" at my ceremony. The Thunderbird symbol in this painting has a two-fold purpose. One that is personal and one that is all-encompassing to My People. What's even more fascinating is the meaning behind the Thunderbird emerging from dark waters so-to-speak. As an alcoholic in remission I've been sober for over a year now and a lot has changed - all great changes. My mind has developed a clarity and focus in life like never before. My body, my health, has been taken back and I'm in the best shape of my life. And lastly, my soul, has never felt more connected with a truly sincere reverence for My Ancestors and Great Spirit.

This painting is the depiction of my second coming. I have emerged and I am here now. "
