AJ Pantaleo releases 'Beat Tape', a collection of a Lo-fi drum breaks. We sat down with him to talk about the new project

What inspired the title?

Classic hip-hop mixtape cassettes. I love the idea of passing around cassettes filled with drum breaks that you can dub and cook up with in the studio.

Where did you record this album?

In my home, Kings Studio.

What is your favorite track? Why?

Purple Tape. Because it is inspired by a classic Raekwon boom-bap beat.

What inspired you to make this project?

Anyone who has ever used my drum breaks as samples for their tracks. Collaboration keeps me going!

If you could remix any song and feature any artist, what song would it be and who would you feature on it? 

I love to hear any true lyricist on my breaks. Local or worldwide.

What's your dream? 

I feel I’m living it every day. I get to play drums with other musicians while connecting spiritually, mentally and emotionally through music.

What is some advice you would give to someone with a dream?

Straight up, DON’T ever give up. Keep going. This game is a marathon not a sprint.
